Tuesday Take #14 with Sketches in Thyme

This is my first entry for the Tuesday Take at Sketches in Thyme and the colours might hurt your eye! But I was inspired with the black and pinks on the patterned papers and had just the right seam binding colour to match as well! I thought I would make a card that you could give to a newly married couple.

I used pattern papers from DCWV's Street Lace collection. The seam binding was bought from an Etsy seller named EnchantedQuilling. She sells lovely colours of seam binding and has other interesting stuff on her site as well!

The cake image and sentiment is from the Wedding set from American Crafts and is heat embossed. I used Bazzill crystal blings to accentuate the four corners of the paper layering. The stamped image is die cut from Spellbinder's Nestabilities Labels 4.

Thanks for stopping by!

Get Sketchy Challenge $74

This is my entry for Get Sketchy's Card Challenge #74. I wanted to use the felt flower embellishments from American Crafts for the longest time but never found papers to match it. Today, I looked at my patterned papers from 7Gypsies and I realised, they match! I like the pop of olive green on the flower as well.

I used some crocheted lace from my local haberdashery store and the white embossed sentiment is from My Favorite Things. It's the Framed Greetings Die and Stamp Set.

I decided to leave the inside of the card blank but am liking the matching patterned paper inside and out for the card. Three super tiny pearl embellishments finish the inner card. I used the Fiskars Threading Water punch on the patterned paper on the inside of the card.

Thank you for stopping by!

Scrapbook Album for my Mom

I decided to make my mom a chipboard scrapbook album for Christmas in 2010. The chipboard album I used is from Bo Bunny and it spells out "MOM". I have never attempted to make an album so I thought I should start out 'small' and this is the end result.

It is very girly all round and what I did was incorporate pictures of my mom with my sisters and I and also with her grandkids. The front title of the album reads "Domestic Goddess" because that's what my mom really is. She cooks amazing meals and my parents' home is always spick and span! She is amazing with the grandkids and never seems to tire, like the energizer bunny.

The papers I used for are mostly from Pink Paislee's Sweetness Collection but I used one sheet of a damask patterned paper from My Mind's Eye for the third fifth page of the album. I used some lace, bling and flowers from Prima along with some felt flowers I cut out using Tim Holtz's Tattered Florals Sizzix die.

I also had some space for journaling about my mom embellished with Tim Holtz Muse tags, pearl brads from My Mind's Eye and some crocheted lace I bought at a local haberdashery store.

My mom loves the album and my next project is one for my niece! I will post that one up when it's done (may take a while).

Thanks for visiting!

Stamptacular Sunday Challenge #98

I had some time on my hands and looked around for more websites with card challenges and I stumbled across Stamptacular Sunday Challenge. My entry is for Challenge #98 and the theme was "Lovin' From The Oven"! There were so many great cards posted for this challenge and I thought I would try my hand at it too!

I decided to use patterned papers from Basic Grey's Nook and Pantry collection. I thought the cupcakes were suitable for the theme. The stamped image and sentiment is from My Favorite Things, Who's That Birthday Girl stamp set. The ribbon is from Hero Arts and the flowers are yummy aren't they? The die used to cut out the stamped image is from Spellbinders and it's their Nestabilities Labels 4.

I paper pieced the cake with a patterned paper from the same Basic Grey Collection and coloured in the lady's skirt with Copic sketch markers using R20, R22 and R24. I also used four rust coloured brads at each corner as further embellishents.

I left the inside of the card blank but decided to use co-ordinating patterned papers to make it less boring.

Please forgive my pictures if they are not of great quality as I am still learning and trying to make do with the equipment that I have.

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone and have a great week ahead!

Artiste Tray with Iris Babao Uy

Sometime back in December 2010, I attended a craft class organised by Made with Love in Singapore with celebrity artist, Iris Babao Uy. Iris is well known to the people in the craft world for her many talents and for those who are new to her, you can learn more about her here. The class that I attended was to complete a Shadowbox Tray by 7Gypsies with pictures of yourself to celebrate the artiste in you.

Since this was my first time attending any type of craft class, I forgot to bring pen and paper to jot down the tips and tricks that Iris shared with the class. Hence, forgive me if I'm unable to mention what materials she used to get certain effects you will see on the completed tray.

The above is the completed tray and I am so loving shadowbox trays now but man, it was a lot of work! The corrugated board you see in the top box and the largest box in the middle is actually made using the packing material that came with the shadowbox. I thought that was cool since you can recycle the packaging. We painted the corrugated boards with cream acrylic paint. I used the Golden brand of acrylic paints.

The flowers are from Prima and the metal charms/embellishments are from7Gypsies (oh except for the metal key hole on the top right, I think that is from the Tim Holtz line). The 'Artiste' lettering is from American Crafts and the butterflies and birds were just fussy cut out from some 7Gypsies papers.

The gold flakes you see above were probably my favorite technique from the class, but you guessed it, I think I forgot what Iris used. I THINK it was gold mica flakes mixed in gel medium. I love how it came out! The bingo chip is from Maya Road. We also used a lot of Tim Holtz's tissue tape for this project.

I think that the shadowbox makes a great display around the house or as a gift to someone special (since it takes a lot of work!)

Thanks for visiting!

Get Sketchy Card Challenge #73

Time for a card challenge entry again. I entered Get Sketchy's Card Challenge #71 but missed #72, so here is the card sketch for #73 over on Get Sketchy's Blog.

I am currently very much into kraft cardstock and decided to make a simple card combined with papers from October Afternoon's Thrift Shop Collection. The butterflies are punched out from Martha Stewart's Monarch Butterfly Punch. I wanted to keep it simple so just rubbed some Diamond Stickles on them for a shimmering effect.

The sentiment is from My Favorite Thing's Polka Dot Greetings Die and Stamp Set Duo that comes with both the dies and the coordinating sentiments. Absolutely love it. I used my Corner Chomper to round the top parts of the card and a Fiskars Scallop Puncher for the kraft scallops.

Pretty simple but I think it came out great!
